how I work….
Counselling takes the old adage: “a problem shared is a problem halved” and expands on it; your counsellor is on your side no matter what, and is there for the conversations we otherwise might not have.
I offer an integrative counselling, which means, I have trained in several kinds of therapy (The Person Centred Approach, Gestalt counselling, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and can tailor them to meet your needs and your taste as we go along.
My service is informed by polyvagal theory -the study of the ways our psychological state (emotions and thoughts) can be influenced by our physiological state (our bodily health and wellbeing) and visa versa through the workings of our autonomic nervous system. Using contemporary neuroscience, this way of working offers simple, gentle techniques that can help us relax, or awaken, to compliment our conversations.
My counselling practice is built from inclusive foundations up: I am committed to DEI and to working alongside people who might have experienced discrimination, and I align with movements which centre the dignity of all peoples.
If you have specific access needs — physical, sensory, communication, or otherwise — please tell me so we can discuss how to meet them.
For those who are from racialised communities, or from non-British countries, for those who identify as neurodivergant, and for those who differ from the 'norm' in their expression of love, gender and identity, you are also so very welcome here!
